A rape victim from Unnao in Uttar Pradesh was allegedly set ablaze by five men, including one who was accused in the crime, police said on Thursday.

The 23 year old woman has suffered 60-70 per cent burn injuries, said officials. She has now been rushed to a specialised hospital in Lucknow for further treatment.

The woman was allegedly raped in March and the accused had later been granted bail, they said.

"Victim referred to a hospital in Lucknow for better treatment. We have arrested 4 accused, search for one (main culprit) is underway. Victim had earlier filed a rape case, one accuse in that case has also been rounded up.” said police.

"We got the information in the morning. She has given the names of the accused. We have formed teams to arrest the accused in the case, said Vikrant Vir, a senior police official in Unnao.

The victim has been shifted to a government hospital in Lucknow and is in a critical condition, police added.

In March 2019, the woman had filed a first information report against two men from her paternal village in Unnao, accusing them of raping her and also filming the act. First Information Report was filed in the neighbouring Rae Bareli district reportedly after the intervention of a local court.
