Karuna Shukla, niece of the late prime minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee has strongly objected to the BJP’s efforts of using Vajpayee’s name for reaping political gains ahead of 2019 general elections.

She said candidly "If PM Modi and Amit Shah can walk for 5 km alongside Atal Bihari Vajpayee’s casket then I request them to also walk at least 2 steps on his principles in real life too. People know their real face and will answer them via votes.”

She also mentioned the treatment meted out to the veteran leader of the BJP, Lal Krishna Advani by the party and said that she is deeply pained by this.

Karuna Shukla expressed her unhappiness over the ‘misuse’ of Vajpayee’s name by senior leaders of the BJP, PM Modi, party chief Amit Shah and Chhattisgarh Chief Minister Raman Singh and said that they are trying to garner sympathy vote.

She alleged that the Chhattisgarh chief minister never uttered Vajpayee’s name earlier but immediately after his demise he announced many schemes on his name.
