Shopkeepers in Mayapuri scrap market, the biggest market for second hand automotive and industrial goods, are a worried lot these days. Business, they say, is totally down.

They curse and blame the Narendra Modi government for the terrible state of affairs where they say it is becoming difficult for them to pay the GST.

In the video, an elderly Sikh shopkeeper of Mayapuri market is telling the reporter that he has not seen such bad days in the last 40 years.

Another trader says that issues like Kashmir, Article 370, Pakistan, Imran Khan running on all news channels are meant to deflect attention from the economic mess the government has created.

A young man questions the government’s logic behind levying a high Goods and Services Tax (GST) at 28%.

It is very unusual for the traders to speak against the government of the day. But if they are doing it, their frustration and disappointment is palpable.

However, the fear of a backlash from the government is also there. A trader tells the reporter with folded hands that they are saying all this so that their voice reaches the government and it takes some action to bring things back on track. He also requests the mediapersons to not cut “this part of the clip” in which he is seen begging the government with folded hands.
