TMC supremo Mamata Banerjee, in an exclusive interview to NDTV on Tuesday accused the BJP is trying to create trouble in the areas where they have won. She said, "The BJP is a communal party, they are trouble-mongers, they use fake videos, they misuse their powers, they misuse agencies; they want to demolish federalism, bulldoze the federal character of the country."

Continuing her scathing attack on the BJP, Mamata said that it is the BJP which is not allowing universal vaccination, not giving oxygen and the people are suffering due to this mismanagement.

Regarding her massive victory in the assembly election she said that this has proved that the BJP can be defeated. "The BJP can be defeated. At the end of the day it is a democracy and it is the people's choice that matters. People have shown the way. In a democracy you should not show audacity or ego," she said.

Meanwhile, BJP spokesperson and senior advocate Gaurav Bhatia on Tuesday moved the Supreme Court seeking a CBI probe into the episodes of violence which erupted in West Bengal after the declaration of Assembly election results on May 2 in which the ruling Trinamool Congress cruised to a landslide victory.

Citing media reports, Bhatia alleged in his plea that the violence is directly sponsored by ruling party through its workers who are seeking revenge against the citizens of the state who exercised their democratic right to vote for a party other than the Trinamool.

"The Trinamool has dehumanised its political opponents, specifically targeting the BJP and its members and workers, branding them as fascists and bigots," read the plea.

Besides demanding a CBI probe, the plea also sought directions to the West Bengal government to file a detailed status report with respect to the FIRs registered, arrests made, and steps taken by it against the perpetrators of the crimes.

After reports of violence erupting in different parts of West Bengal following the declaration of Assembly election results on May 2 the Congress said on Tuesday that Trinamool supremo Mamata Banerjee should take steps to stop the bloodshed.

While addressing a press conference, the party's Rajya Sabha MP Shaktisinh Gohil said, "The Trinamool leader (Banerjee) should take steps to stop the violence as the election mandate comes with a responsibility. Even if the target is the BJP workers, then also the violence should stop immediately."

Houses and vehicles of some BJP candidates were allegedly attacked in Bengal post the declaration of election results. The vehicle of BJP leader Suvendu Adhikari, who defeated Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee in Nandigram, was also reportedly attacked.

"The Ministry of Home Affairs has asked the West Bengal government for a report on the post-poll violence targeting opposition political workers in the state," the MHA spokesperson had tweeted earlier.

Trinamool leaders, however, have said that they had nothing to do with any such incidents in West Bengal and urged the people to maintain peace and follow all Covid-19 protocols.
