After the Delhi government, now the Chandigarh Administration has imposed weekend lockdown in the city from Friday night till Monday morning.

As the city reported 412 fresh cases of coronavirus and three deaths on Thursday, the Administration on Friday imposed weekend lockdown till Monday. The lockdown will be enforced from Friday 10 PM till Monday 5 AM.

The UT Administrator VP Singh Badnore took the decision in the high-level meeting held to review the coronavirus status in the city.

Essential services, however, will be allowed and restaurants can do home-delivery but the Gyms, Spa, coaching centres, swimming pools and other public will remain closed till April 30.

All the competitive examinations like NDA will not be affected as students can travel carrying their admit cards.

Laying special emphasis on vaccination against the virus, the authorities claim that the Covid vaccination programme will continue despite the lockdown.


The Administration has already closed the famous Rock Garden for visitors and the Sukhna Lake, the main tourist hotspot of the city on all weekends until the situation improves. Only 200 people can gather at an outdoor even while only 100 persons can gather for an indoor event.

Chandigarh which is the capital of two states- Punjab and Haryana also shares its boundaries with Mohali (Punjab) and Panchkula (Haryana) districts that reported 860 and 315 positive cases of the infection on Thursday. These are the highest single-day spikes in the corona cases, the two districts reported so far since the pandemic broke out.
