Amid BJP's criticism of Congress-led Rajasthan government over infants deaths at a govt hospital in Kota, the Congress on Sunday demanded to know as to why PM Narenra Modi and Home Minister Amit Shah -- both of whom come from Gujarat -- are silent on hundreds of infants death in their home state.

"In Rajkot, 1235 innocent children have died in the last one year in government hospitals. In Ahmedabad and Rajkot cumulatively 219 infants have died in December," Congress spokesman Randeep Singh Surjewala said in a series of tweets on Sunday.

"In Ahmedabad, 253 children have died in the last three years. But (Narendra) Modi ji is silent, (Amit) Shah ji is silent," he added, pointing out that Chief Minister Vijay Rupani is MLA from Rajkot and Home Minister Amit Shah is MP from Ahmedabad-Gandhinagar.

"Will PM dare to dismiss Vijay Rupani?" he asked

Surjewala also took a dig at the media for not raising the issue of infants' deaths in Gujarat.

"One can understand the silence of BJP leaders on the failure of their govenrment, but why are friends from the media silent?" he added.

The Congress leader also shared a video in which CM Vijay Rupani is seen walking away when mediapersons question him about the deaths of children in govenrment facilities.
