Trump to host Pakistan Army chief Asim Munir for lunch at White House
The luncheon in the historic Cabinet Room of the White House, has a significant impact on the geo-politics of South Asia and the Middle East

US President Donald Trump will host the visiting Pak Army Chief Field Marshal Asim Munir for a luncheon at the White House on Wednesday, 18 June, according to a presidential schedule released in Washington.
“THE PRESIDENT has lunch with the Chief of Army Staff of the Islamic Republic of Pakistan,” the White House said as it released the daily schedule of Trump late on Tuesday, 17 June, night.
This is probably the first time since the former Pakistan president, Gen. Pervez Musharraf, that a Pakistani military leader is being hosted for a luncheon by a US President at the White House.
The luncheon in the historic Cabinet Room of the White House, has a significant impact on the geo-politics of South Asia and the Middle East. Considered to be a de-facto ruler of Pakistan, the meeting will elevate Munir’s position in the country and the region.

Pakistan’s ties with India, in the aftermath of the Pahalgam terrorist attack and the successful retaliatory strikes by the Indian Armed forces is expected to be a major topic of discussion, along with the possible helpful role that Pakistan can play in the war against Iran by Israel and the US.
Trump has offered to mediate between India and Pakistan. New Delhi has refused any such offer. On Wednesday, State department spokesperson Tammy Bruce told reporters that the offer still stands, but it’s for India to decide on it.
“He's committed to that. It is part of his overall commitment to the country. So I would not speak to the nature of another country's decision-making,” Bruce said.
