International pop star Rihanna on Tuesday extended her support to the ongoing farmers’ protests as she took to social media to question the internet ban imposed by the government both in Haryana and certain parts of Delhi adjoining the protest sites.

Sharing a news report by CNN on the farmers’ protest, Rihanna asked, “Why aren’t we talking about this?!” She also used the popular hashtag #FarmersProtest in her tweet.

The report by CNN was about the government’s decision to cut internet services to the protesting farmers. This was after the Haryana government banned internet services in 14 out of 22 districts. The ban was first for 24 hours before the government extended it till 2 February.

Rihanna extending support to farmers assumes significance given her global appeal. She has in excess of 100 million followers on Twitter alone.

Earlier, British professional boxer Kell Brook had raised his voice against brutality allegedly committed by the police against farmers. Brook, who has held the IBF welterweight title from 2014 to 2017, shared a photo of a farmer allegedly being crushed under the boot of a policeman and wrote, “Stop this now.”

Brook also used hashtag #JusticeForTheKisan in his social media post, which has been retweeted nearly 29,000 times.
