Acharya Pramod Krisham, founder of Kalki Peeth at Sambhal, is also very popular among Muslims. Since he has friendly association with Muslims, he is in favour of a cordial settlement on the Ayodhya issue and has constantly been making an effort towards it. According to him, this is a serious issue and should be sorted out with mutual consent. Acharya Pramod Krishnam also believes that the country is marred by the fast-spreading hatred. And it is very essential to cure the country of this sickness. Aas Mohd Kaif talked to him exclusively on various relevant issues:

As the elections are drawing closer, the issue of Ram temple in Ayodhya has once again become the centre of political discourse. The voices dissatisfied at the court’s stand are also quite vocal!

See, this is a very big issue and is linked to every person living in India, no matter which religion he belongs to. The issue has been in the court for a very long time and even the court is also facing difficulties in making the decision. There are in fact two issues- one is for the court to decide and another is related to religious faith. I believe the matters of faith are not sorted out in the courts. It would have been better had both the sides sat together and sorted out the matter through discussions. Because whatever decision the court takes will disappoint and hurt one side. We are all living together at one place and if the sentiments of a person living next door are hurt, how can I be happy? My own opinion is that this issue was to be resolved through dialogue, but in the last four and a half years, the Government of India did not take any initiative about this. Had the government taken any initiative, we would certainly have found a way out by now.

Do you think that in this entire issue the Muslims of India are being given the required respect and consideration?

Some leaders have created such circumstances that they start cursing Muslims without any rhyme or reason, call them traitors and link them to Mughal King Babar. I don’t think any Muslim of India is a Babar or Aurangzeb supporter. Had it been so, then all of them together wouldn’t have fought with the Britishers. But now some such parties or organisations have come into being which speak strongly against Muslims and there are some parties which speak against the Hindus. This fanaticism is weakening the country. The Ram temple issue is under consideration of the Supreme Court. I do not think the government is serious about building Ram temple. Their people are keen on just inciting religious sentiments or else, why have they not done anything about it!

You have a better communication with the Muslims and you are closer to them, do you think they will oppose the Ram temple in Ayodhya?

No. I don’t think so. Till date I Have talked to many Ulemas, I have held discussions with many people who are related to Sufism, have even talked to some students of Madrassa. I never felt that any Muslim was against Lord Ram. They revere Him a lot. No Muslim has said this to me that they will protest if the Ram temple is built in Ayodhya. Actually no effort has been made to take Muslims into confidence. These are the issues of our own house, we can sort them out. But even now sincere efforts are not being made in this regard.

Do the BJP people want to portray Muslims as villains by calling them a major block in the way of building the temple? This may cause serious disturbance…

They are like lemon, wherever they go, they divide, they are not like sugar that they could melt (and unite the people). Their birth was a consequence of the division. Nothing can be expected from them.

But we will try hard for it. Everyone needs jobs, house, food. We can’t do any work alone. If Hindus don’t want to conduct any business with Muslims, or not even talk to them, that is not possible. It is also not possible for Muslims to run their businesses and lives without Hindus. We have a close and symbiotic relationship. So, we should live together in harmony. Some people rake up this sensitive issue to reap benefits from it. We all want cordial solution to this issue.

Do you have any plans to take this issue towards a peaceful solution?

Former MP and senior leader of Ram Janam bhoomi Nyas Ram Vilas Vedanti has spoken to me. He has asked me to talk to the Muslims. In fact, he believes that those people who are talking to Muslims have not been very effective. I will talk to Zafaryab Jilani of Babri Masjid Action Committee, Personal Law Board, Jamiat Ulema A Hind, Milli Council and other Muslims organisations on this issue and will discuss a peaceful solution.

Do you in any way suspect the government’s intentions about building the Ram temple?

They don’t want to construct Ram temple, if they wanted, they could have done it in 2015, 16 or 17. The BJP government just wants to drag the matter to cause dispute and tension. They brought triple talaq bill, without consulting the Muslims, they change the Supreme Court’s decision on SC-ST act, they implement demonestisation at midnight, They do whatever they want. They have a such a majority government, but they never talked about constructing the Ram temple.
