Amid the unabated increase in corona infections in Bihar, civil surgeon R R Jha and legislative councillor Sunil Kumar Singh of Samastipur district died due to COVID-19.

Civil surgeon in-charge of Samastipur Dr Satish Kumar Sinha on Wednesday morning said that after Jha was found corona-positive, he was admitted to AIIMS hospital in Patna where he passed away.

He said that Jha was also a kidney patient and his health worsened after being infected by the corona virus. On Tuesday evening, BJP legislative councillor Sunil Singh also died of coronavirus during treatment at Patna AIIMS.


An AIIMS official said that Singh, 66, was admitted to the hospital on July 13 after being found corona positive. The MLC, a Darbhanga resident, was already suffering from various ailments including diabetes. He was put on a ventilator as his condition became critical but he could not be saved.

After 1,109 fresh cases of COVID-19 reported on Tuesday, the number of corona-infected persons has increased to 28,564 in BIhar. As many as 18,741 infected persons have recovered after treatment. The death toll has reached nearly 200.
