Just two days after Union Home Minister Amit Shah chaired a high-level security review meeting with Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta and senior police officials, a firing incident between two groups in northeast Delhi’s Jyoti Nagar area left five people injured.

During the meeting, Shah had directed Delhi Police to take strict action against organised crime and gang violence in the capital. However, the latest incident raises serious questions about the effectiveness of these security measures and the promises made by the Home Minister.

According to police, the incident was reported around 9 pm on Monday, 3 March at Jyoti Nagar police station when a man informed authorities that his son had been shot by unidentified assailants.

DCP (Northeast) Abhishek Mishra stated, “Five people have been injured in the firing incident. They have been admitted to the hospital. A case has been registered at Jyoti Nagar police station, and we have leads on the individuals involved.”

Upon arrival, police found that multiple rounds had been fired during the clash. The injured were rushed to GTB Hospital for treatment. A crime team and forensic experts were called to examine the scene, where several empty cartridges and a live cartridge were recovered.

Authorities are investigating the motive behind the gunfight, probing possible gang rivalries or personal enmity. Local sources are being questioned, and CCTV footage from the area is being examined for leads.

Meanwhile, security has been tightened in the area to prevent further escalation, and residents have been urged to cooperate with the investigation as efforts to trace the culprits continue.
