What would you do if you’ve been taken in for questioning by unidentified men for 17 hours over something you shared on social media? This incident happened with a 21- year-old law student in Hyderabad, Aarif Muhammad, when he shared an article about Prime Minister Narendra Modi, saying the person who hurls a shoe at him will be awarded Rs 1 lakh. Aarif shared this post and wrote "Guys.. modiji will be in Hyderabad on 28 nov..".

This statement caught attention of the police because when he was attending a function in Gudimalkapur, Mehdipatnam, Aarif was picked up by people in plain clothes who interrogated him and took him to Gachibowli police station at 11:30 pm on Saturday. He was questioned for 17 hours about the nature of the post and was asked if he wrote it. When he denied it, he was questioned again by uniformed police officers about the same. He was let go at 5 pm on Sunday.

The post responsible for the mishap was posted on November 20 by Mumbai-based Ram Subramanian. Subramanian, who describes himself as a writer and filmmaker, had said in his post, "I am offering ₹1 lakh to anyone who throws a chappal/shoe at Narendra Modi. Welcome to the new Indian culture. Foundation laid by BJP4India."

Subramanian was reacting to the 'Padmavati' controversy, wherein a BJP leader had placed a bounty of ₹10 cr for beheading actor Deepika Padukone . Deepika has played the lead role in Sanjay Leela Bhansali's 'Padmavati', which got mired in a controversy with its release put off until 2018. When asked, Aarif was quoted: "While sharing the page and writing my comment on it, I could not complete it. I wanted to write that no one should do anything of that sort as Hyderabad would get a bad name".
