Under the ongoing Sangathan Srijan Abhiyan, Congress MP and Lok Sabha Leader of Opposition Rahul Gandhi on Wednesday met senior party leaders in Chandigarh to chart out the roadmap for the organisational expansion of the Haryana unit.

According to sources, Rahul Gandhi instructed senior leaders not to obstruct party work in districts other than their own. He emphasised that the process of organisational restructuring must be completed by 30 June without internal interference.

It was decided during the meeting that the district-wise application process for restructuring will begin on 10 June, aiming for completion by the end of the month.

The meeting was attended by 17 senior state leaders who gave feedback on the party’s reorganisation efforts. Congress general-secretary (organisation) K.C. Venugopal and Haryana in-charge B.K. Hariprasad were also present. Another meeting is scheduled with 22 AICC-appointed observers and 69 PCC observers to take stock of the situation across the state.

"Rahulji emphasised the urgent need to activate this process in Haryana. To support this, 22 AICC observers from various states, including three from Haryana, will visit districts to finalise candidates. By the 30th, we expect at least one candidate name per district, with a panel of up to six if needed," Hariprasad said.

"Deliberations focused on strengthening grassroots structures, energizing the cadre, and preparing the party for upcoming challenges with unity and clarity of vision," he added.

After the meeting, former Union minister Birender Singh said, “The party’s message is clear — within a month or even sooner, observers appointed by the AICC and the state Congress will visit each district in groups of three to five. They will consult Congress workers, common people who support the party, and senior local leaders to recommend suitable names for the appointment of District Congress Presidents”.

Meanwhile, scenes of protest unfolded outside the Sector-9 Congress office as several workers were denied entry to the premises. The workers said they had gathered to welcome Rahul Gandhi but were stopped by police citing security protocols, leading to arguments.

The Sangathan Srijan Abhiyan was announced during the extended Congress Working Committee (CWC) meeting in Belagavi in December 2024, where the party had declared 2025 as the year of organisational rebuilding.

The programme, now underway in various states, seeks to restructure the Congress right from the booth level to the top leadership.
