Haryana govt spends Rs 3.8 lakh to buy 10 copies of Gita

The BJP government in Haryana bought 10 copies of Bhagwad Gita for Rs 3.8 lakh to commemorate Gita Jayanti, Indian National Lok Dal (INLD) MP Dushyant Chautala has alleged.

Chautala, the Lok Sabha MP from Hisar, tweeted, “10 Gita purchased for Rs. 3,79,500 by the Khattar government at Gita Jayanti. Wow Narendra Modi ji, what an Honest government we have in Haryana.

“Gita ke naam pe bhi chori, uper Se Sina Jori,” he concluded.

The Manohar Lal Khattar-BJP government previously found itself in the firing line of opposition parties for marking Gita Jayanti with lavish celebrations that costed the taxpayer to the tune of Rs 15 crore. The information was revealed through RTI.

The Haryana Government spent 15 crores on the entire festival. It was also revealed in RTI that two BJP MPs were also gifted money during the program. While MP Hema Malini was given Rs 20 lakh, Delhi BJP President Manoj Tiwari was given a sum of Rs 10 lakh. Apart from this, one crore rupees were spent in repairing Brahma Sarovar, on top of Rs 38 lakh that had already been spent on the project in 2016.

INLD leader Dushyant Chautala also said, "If the Haryana government does not conduct any inquiry on this matter, then I will complain to the CAG."

On the whole issue, Congress leader Bhupinder Singh Hooda said, "The BJP government is an organisation of event management and scandals. It has done nothing except for scandals. People are now waiting to change it."
