A tentative truce proposed by President Donald Trump hung in the balance as Israel said Iran had launched missiles into its airspace less than three hours after a ceasefire went into effect and vowed to retaliate.

Explosions boomed and sirens sounded across northern Israel midmorning on Tuesday, after both Israel and Iran accepted the ceasefire plan to end the 12-day war roiling the Middle East.

Israeli defence minister Israel Katz called the missiles a violation of the ceasefire and instructed Israel's military to resume “the intense operations to attack Tehran and to destroy targets of the regime and terror infrastructure.”

The shaky agreement was announced early Tuesday morning after Tehran launched a retaliatory limited missile attack on a US military base in Qatar on Monday.

In a dramatic late-night announcement, US President Donald Trump claimed that Iran and Israel had reached a “complete ceasefire” agreement, potentially signalling an end to the spiraling regional conflict. But within hours, missiles were once again in the air.

Intelligence leaders are set to brief Congress on Trump's Iran strikes

Members of Congress will hear directly from President Donald Trump's intelligence leaders Tuesday, receiving classified briefings just three days after Trump directed strikes on Iranian nuclear facilities and a day after Iran struck a US base in Qatar.

The briefings also come the day after Trump proclaimed on social media that Israel and Iran had agreed that there will be an “Official END” of their conflict. That tentative truce briefly faltered Tuesday when Israel accused Iran of launching missiles into its airspace, but Trump later declared it was “in effect!”

Democrats in Congress, along with some Republicans, have questions about Trump's unilateral decision to launch military action, arguing he should have gone to Congress for approval — or at least provided more justification for the attacks.

“We expect them to explain to the American people what were the results in terms of actually thwarting Iran's capacity to become a nuclear power and what are the Trump administration's plans to avoid another potentially disastrous war in the Middle East, where thousands of American lives are potentially at risk,” said House Democratic leader Hakeem Jeffries.

The separate briefings for the House and Senate will be led by CIA director John Ratcliffe and director of National Intelligence Tulsi Gabbard, along with Gen. Dan Caine, chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, and deputy secretaries of state Christopher Landau and Steve Feinberg.

India stands ready to help resolve conflict: MEA on West Asia situation

Hours after US President Donald Trump's claims of an Iran-Israel ceasefire, India on Tuesday said it stands ready to play its part to resolve the situation and insisted on "dialogue and diplomacy" as the way forward.

New Delhi said it remained "deeply concerned" about the overall situation, but welcomed reports of a ceasefire between Iran and Israel.

"We have been following developments overnight relating to the conflict between Iran and Israel, including the US action against Iran's nuclear facilities and Iranian retaliation against US military bases in Qatar," the ministry of external affairs (MEA) said.

"While we remain deeply concerned about the prospects for overall and sustained regional security and stability, we welcome reports of a ceasefire between Iran and Israel and the role played by the US and Qatar in bringing it about," it said.

New Delhi again called for resolution of the conflict through dialogue and diplomacy. "We wish to reiterate that there is no alternative to dialogue and diplomacy in order to address and resolve the multiple conflicts in the region," the MEA said in a statement. "India stands ready to play its part in these efforts and hopes that all concerned parties will work towards sustained peace and stability."

They don't know what the f**k they're doing: Trump

Before boarding a Marine One aircraft on his way to the NATO summit,US President Donald Trump told reporters that he thinks both Iran and Israel “violated it”.

“I’m not sure they did it intentionally. They couldn’t reign people back,” he added, but he made it clear he was particularly unhappy with Israel, which “dropped a load of bombs the likes of which I’ve never seen” right after agreeing to a truce.

“When I say, ‘you have 12 hours’, you don’t go out in the first hour and just drop everything you have on them,” Trump complained. “We basically have two countries that have been fighting so long and so hard that they don’t know what the f*** they’re doing.”

Trump tells Israel not to bomb Iran again

In a strongly-worded warning to Israel, US President Donald Trump has cautioned the country against launching another attack on Iran, after Israel’s defence ministry announced plans for “intense strikes” in response to what Israel alleged was an Iranian ceasefire violation.

“ISRAEL. DO NOT DROP THOSE BOMBS.” Trump wrote on his Truth Social handle. “IF YOU DO IT IS A MAJOR VIOLATION. BRING YOUR PILOTS HOME, NOW!”

Before leaving for the NATO summit at The Hague, Trump accused both Israel and Iran of breaking the ceasefire he had announced earlier today. Speaking to reporters, Trump said he was unhappy with both countries, but especially Israel, which “unloaded” right after agreeing to the deal.

Iran thanks Qatar for role in de-escalation

Iranian deputy foreign minister Majid Takht-Ravanchi has expressed his gratitude to Qatar for helping prevent further escalation of tensions in the region, Al Jazeera has reported citing Iran’s Young Journalist Club. In a phone call, Takht-Ravanchi thanked Qatari minister of state Mohammed bin Abdulaziz al-Khulaifi for his country’s “constructive role”.

The call follows Iran's missile strike directed at the US military base in Qatar’s Al Udeid in retaliation for US airstrikes on three Iranian nuclear facilities on Sunday. In response to Iran's missile salvo, Qatar strongly condemned the attack within Qatari territory and summoned the Iranian ambassador on Tuesday.

Qatar also wrote to UN secretary-general Antonio Guterres and the UN Security Council on Tuesday denouncing Iran's “extremely dangerous escalation”, saying the attack posed a “direct threat to regional peace and security”.

Iran denies firing missiles at Israel: Reports

Iran has rejected Israeli claims that it fired missiles at Israel after agreeing to a ceasefire brokered by the US, according to the IRIB broadcaster and ISNA news agency, as reported by Al Jazeera.

The reports came as Israel’s defence minister Israel Katz accused Iran of violating the truce and ordered “intense strikes” on Tehran. Earlier, Israeli media reported that the military intercepted two ballistic missiles launched from Iran.

The Supreme National Security Council of Iran issued a statement on the “national decision to impose the cessation of war on the Zionist enemy and its vile supporters”.

Iran’s armed forces delivered a “humiliating and exemplary response to the enemy’s cruelty”, it said, adding that it culminated in the attack on the US base in Qatar last night and dawn missile strikes on Israel.

Iran media says Israeli strike killed nine in north ahead of ceasefire

Iranian media reported on Tuesday, 24 June that an overnight Israeli airstrike in the country’s north killed nine people, just hours before US President Donald Trump announced the start of a ceasefire between Iran and Israel.

According to the Fars news agency, the strike destroyed four residential buildings and damaged several neighbouring homes in Gilan province. The report cited provincial official Ali Bagheri, who confirmed the extent of the destruction and the casualty toll.

The strike is among the deadliest reported on Iranian soil in recent days and comes amid a fragile and still-unconfirmed ceasefire agreement between the two regional rivals.

Iran says Israeli strike killed top nuclear scientist hours before ceasefire

Iranian state television has reported that an Israeli airstrike killed a nuclear scientist in northern Iran just before the ceasefire announcement made by US President Donald Trump.

The broadcaster said Mohammad Reza Seddighi Saber was killed at his parents’ home in Astaneh-ye Ashrafiyeh. Saber, who was under US sanctions, is the second member of his family reported to have died in recent strikes — his 17-year-old son was killed days earlier in an attack on their home in Tehran, according to an AFP report.

The strike marks a significant escalation in the conflict’s toll on Iran’s nuclear personnel, coming hours before the proposed ceasefire between Iran and Israel was said to take effect.

Germany welcomes ceasefire, calls it ‘very good development’

German Chancellor Friedrich Merz has welcomed the ceasefire between Israel and Iran proposed by US President Donald Trump, calling it a positive step following recent US military action.

“If this ceasefire succeeds after the decisive US military strikes against Iran’s nuclear facilities, it is a very good development,” Merz posted on his official X account.

Germany joins a growing number of international voices cautiously supporting the truce, even as questions remain over its durability and official confirmation from all parties involved.

Netanyahu says Israel met all goals in Iran offensive, agrees to ceasefire

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has declared that Israel has achieved all its objectives in the military operation against Iran and has agreed to a bilateral ceasefire proposed by US President Donald Trump.

In a statement released by the prime minister’s office, Netanyahu told his cabinet, along with the defence minister and Mossad chief, that “Israel had achieved all of the objectives of Operation Rising Lion, and much more.”

The statement claimed that Israel “removed a dual immediate existential threat – both in the nuclear and ballistic missile fields,” while its military “achieved full air control over Tehran’s skies, inflicted severe damage on the military leadership, and destroyed dozens of central Iranian government targets.”

The Israeli government said its agreement to the ceasefire was made “in full coordination with President Trump” and warned that Israel “will respond forcefully to any violation of the ceasefire.”

Families of Israeli captives urge government to extend ceasefire to Gaza

Relatives of Israeli captives held in Gaza have called on the government to broaden the ceasefire agreement with Iran to include the Palestinian territory, urging immediate negotiations for the release of hostages and an end to the war in Gaza.

In a statement shared by the Hostages and Missing Families Forum on X, the group said, “The ceasefire agreement must expand to include Gaza. We call on the government to urgently engage in talks that will lead to the return of all hostages and the end of the war. If they can achieve a ceasefire with Iran, they can also end the war in Gaza.”

They warned that failing to leverage recent military gains in Iran to secure the hostages’ return would amount to a "grave diplomatic failure" and argued that continuing the war in Gaza undermines Israeli interests.

“There is a historic window of opportunity, and the Israeli government has a duty to seize it with both hands,” the statement added.

India evacuates 292 more from Iran as Operation Sindhu continues

India has evacuated another batch of 292 citizens from Iran, bringing the total number of Indians repatriated from the conflict-hit country to 2,295, the Ministry of External Affairs said on Tuesday 24 June.

The evacuees arrived in New Delhi from Mashhad at 3.30 a.m. on a special flight, MEA spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal confirmed. The operation is part of India’s ongoing evacuation mission, Operation Sindhu, launched in response to the intensifying hostilities between Iran and Israel following the US bombing of Iranian nuclear facilities.

In a parallel effort, a C-17 aircraft of the Indian Air Force transported 165 Indian nationals from Israel. The evacuees had first crossed into Jordan by land before being airlifted from Amman. Union Minister L Murugan received the group upon arrival in India.

Fragile calm holds after Trump ceasefire claim, but Iran yet to confirm deal

With the ceasefire between Iran and Israel now reportedly in effect, there appears to be a pause in the fighting after 12 days of escalating conflict. However, the situation remains highly fragile.

Iranian foreign minister Abbas Araghchi posted on social media that Tehran has not officially agreed to a ceasefire, and no formal announcement has been made by Iranian authorities so far.

Despite the lack of confirmation from Iran, there have been no reported Israeli strikes on Tehran in the past few hours—an encouraging sign for the temporary calm following US President Donald Trump’s declaration of a ceasefire deal.

Whether this lull marks a lasting shift or just a brief pause remains uncertain, as both sides remain silent on the terms of any potential agreement.

Trump’s ceasefire deadline passes as Iran announces truce, Israel reports fresh missile barrage

The deadline set by US President Donald Trump for Iran to halt its attacks on Israel has passed, with conflicting signals emerging from both sides.

Iranian state television reported on Tuesday 24 June that a ceasefire had officially begun in its conflict with Israel. However, at nearly the same time, Israeli authorities warned of yet another missile barrage launched from Iran, underscoring the fragile and confusing nature of the situation.

The announcement from Tehran came via a television graphic, with no immediate reference to the fresh wave of missiles reported by Israel.

Earlier, a series of Iranian strikes ahead of the deadline killed three people and injured at least eight others in southern Israel, according to rescue services.

It remains unclear whether the reported ceasefire is holding, as neither side has offered a comprehensive or coordinated statement confirming an end to hostilities.

Israeli rescuers say three killed in Iranian missile strike ahead of expected ceasefire

Israeli emergency services have reported that three people were killed and at least eight others injured in an Iranian missile strike on southern Israel, just moments before a ceasefire was expected to begin.

“Following the missile impact site in southern Israel: So far, MDA teams have pronounced the deaths of three people. Two people with moderate injuries have been evacuated to hospital, and approximately six people with mild injuries are being treated at the scene,” Magen David Adom (MDA) said in a statement on X.

The strike highlights the continued volatility on the ground despite US President Donald Trump’s announcement of a ceasefire deal—a claim that has not been confirmed by either Iran or Israel.

Israel issues sixth alert over fresh Iranian missile attack

The Israeli military has issued its sixth missile alert, warning of another incoming barrage from Iran. Authorities are urging residents across affected areas to seek immediate shelter as sirens sound once again.

The latest wave of attacks comes despite US President Donald Trump’s claim of a ceasefire agreement between Iran and Israel—a deal both countries have so far refused to confirm. Tensions remain high as hostilities continue unabated.

Trump continues to praise Iran-Israel ‘deal’ as missile strikes persist

US President Donald Trump has once again taken to Truth Social to celebrate the ceasefire deal he claims to have brokered between Iran and Israel, despite the ongoing missile attacks on Israeli territory.

“We couldn’t have made today’s ‘deal’ without the talent and courage of our great B-2 pilots, and all of those associated with that operation,” Trump posted, referring to the US airstrikes on Iranian nuclear sites.

“In a certain and very ironic way, that perfect ‘hit,’ late in the evening, brought everyone together, and the deal was made!!!” he added.

Neither Iran nor Israel has confirmed the existence of a ceasefire, and the situation on the ground remains tense.

Ex-US official says Trump’s Iran-Israel deal ‘neither verifiable nor permanent’

Ned Price, former spokesperson for the US State Department, has criticised the ceasefire deal between Iran and Israel announced by Donald Trump, calling it “neither verifiable nor permanent”.

In a series of social media posts, Price, who served under President Joe Biden, said true success would have been a permanent and verifiable agreement to prevent Iran from acquiring nuclear weapons — something he argued was undermined by Trump’s 2018 decision to withdraw from the 2015 Iran nuclear deal signed under Barack Obama.

He urged the current US administration to use this moment to push for a new diplomatic agreement and warned that continued involvement in the conflict could drive Iran to accelerate its nuclear ambitions.

Iran denies ceasefire deal, sets deadline for Israel to halt strikes

Iran’s foreign minister Abbas Araghchi has said there is no ceasefire agreement with Israel, contradicting US President Donald Trump’s claim of a truce to end what he called the “12-day war.” Araghchi stated that Tehran would stop its attacks only if Israel ends its “illegal aggression” by 4am local time (00:30 GMT).

Israel has yet to issue any official response. Trump's announcement came hours after an Iranian missile strike on a US base in Qatar and was followed by fresh explosions over Tel Aviv, casting doubt on any immediate de-escalation.

Trump claims Iran and Israel have agreed to a ceasefire

Hours after Iran carried out retaliatory attacks on American bases in Qatar, US President Donald Trump announced on 23 June that Iran and Israel have agreed to a ceasefire, which he said would bring an end to the 12-day war between the two countries in the Middle East, reports Lalit K Jha.

“CONGRATULATIONS TO EVERYONE! It has been fully agreed by and between Israel and Iran that there will be a Complete and Total CEASEFIRE (in approximately 6 hours from now, when Israel and Iran have wound down and completed their in progress, final missions!), for 12 hours, at which point the War will be considered, ENDED!” Trump announced on Truth Social.

“Officially, Iran will start the CEASEFIRE and, upon the 12th Hour, Israel will start the CEASEFIRE and, upon the 24th Hour, an Official END to THE 12 DAY WAR will be saluted by the World. During each CEASEFIRE, the other side will remain PEACEFUL and RESPECTFUL,” he wrote. “On the assumption that everything works as it should, which it will, I would like to congratulate both Countries, Israel and Iran, on having the Stamina, Courage, and Intelligence to end, what should be called, “THE 12 DAY WAR.”,” he asserted.
