In what would disappoint fast-food lovers in the national capital, 43 out of 55 outlets of McDonald’s have shut down in Delhi after their licences expired.

According to reports in The Economic Times, because of a conflict between Connaught Plaza Restaurants (CPRL) and McDonald's, which share a 50:50 local joint venture, CPRL failed to get the mandatory regulatory health licences renewed.

The move is expected to leave nearly 1,700 employees jobless. However, a McDonald's statement said, “We understand that CPRL is retaining the employees of affected restaurants and will pay them their salary during the period of suspension.”
