After a recent review of the threat to various people, the Centre has removed the Z+ level security it had issued to RJD chief Lalu Prasad Yadav on Monday. Lalu will now have Z level security. With this, he will be guarded by an armed commando squad of the Central Reserve Police Force, in accordance with the protocol of the scaled down cover. He wont have National Security Guard (NSG) commandos guarding him any more. The NSG only provides 'Z+' security cover.

Security of some other major politicians have also been downgraded, The 'Z+' CRPF VIP security cover of former Bihar chief minister Jitan Ram Manjhi has been withdrawn completely. He will have state police cover now. The 'Z' cover of Union minister Haribhai P Chaudhary has also been scaled down to 'Y+', entailing less manpower and other paraphernalia, they said.

Reacting to this review of security done by the Centre right before the crucial Gujarat elections, Lalu took a jibe at Prime Minister Narendra Modi by posting two tweets. In the first one, he said “Listen Modi, Lalu isn’t the one who is easily afraid, intimidate someone else, just like you did with Nitish. The eleven crore people of Bihar will protect me, including the children.

In the second tweet, he said, “PM Modi doesn’t want me to travel. I can be attacked anywhere. When I went to Gujarat as a Railway Minister, Modi was the CM, and he was the one behind stone pelting on my car. He cut off my security because he was afraid I would go to Gujarat amidst the elections. Why are you so afraid of Lalu?
