Opinion on Twitter divided over Nitish Kumar’s resignation

While many Twitter users saw Nitish Kumar’s resignation as a well thought out political conspiracy, others, mostly BJP and RSS supporters, hailed the decision

Nitish Kumar quit as Bihar Chief Minister on Wednesday amid growing rift with political ally Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) over corruption charges against Bihar’s Deputy CM Tejashvi Yadav.

Kumar’s decision, which is likely to trigger either an Assembly floor test or imposition of President’s Rule, came hours after RJD supremo Lalu Yadav ruled out the resignation of Tejashvi during a meeting between the alliance partners.

"It's not possible to work in such circumstances. I tried to save Mahagathbandhan (Grand Alliance) to the best of my abilities. Had talks with both Lalu and Tejashwi," Nitish Kumar told reporters after resignation.

The resignation created a buzz on Twitter, as at least four hashtags, Nitish Kumar, Lalu Yadav, Mahagathbandhan and Bihar Governor, trended on the social media platform.

Journalist Rana Ayyub slammed Nitish Kumar for his decision, tweeting,

The move was dubbed as bold by journalist Sagarika Ghose, who said,

A Samajwadi Party spokesperson tweeted,

Professor Rakesh Sinha, seen as close to the RSS, said,

Congress Party issued a statement that they would “honour the mandate” the people of Bihar had given to the Grand Alliance in 2015,
