Priya Varrier’s viral song gets into trouble but she remains a ‘national crush’

Some Muslim youths alleged that the song ‘Manikya Malaraya Poovi’ is against their religious sentiments. A complaint was filed at Falaknuma Police Station in Hyderabad

One-night internet Sensation Priya Prakash Varrier, whose wink has made the whole nation go crazy, has reportedly enraged a group of Muslim youth from Hyderabad. The youths alleged that the song 'Manikya Malaraya Poovi' is against their religious sentiments. A complaint was filed on Tuesday night at Falaknuma Police Station in Hyderabad against the makers of the song from Oru Adaar Love (A Superb Love).

According to a news agency, Falaknuma Additional Commissioner of Police (ACP) Syed Faiyaz said, "The youth said the song's lyrics allegedly hurt the sentiments of Muslims. A preliminary enquiry is going, and no FIR has been filed yet."

The song was originally penned by PMA Jabbar in 1978. The song has been written in praise of the Prophet's first wife.


The director of Oru Adaar Love, Omar Lulu said in an interview, "There is nothing against Islam or Muslims. It is a very old love song sung by all communities".

The Malayalam film’s first song went viral on social media within hours of its release. Manikya Malaraya Poovi, a song from the film was released on YouTube on February 9.

The clip, of the film features Priya in which she as a teenage schoolgirl boldly winks at her classmate during a school programme. It has gone viral over social media sites, garnering countless retweets, likes, memes in its wake.


On Tuesday, the makers of Oru Adaar Love released another teaser. In this video, Priya shoots a kiss to her friend, the actor Roshan Abdul Rahoof using a handgun, making him faint in delight. In less than two hours, the teaser video has also garnered over two lakh views.

According to a news report, over 19 fake Twitter accounts on Priya’s name have become active. Some of these handles also got a compelling number of followers in a few hours. These fake accounts have followers from 900 to 3000. Similarly on Facebook, there are more than 35 profiles, claiming to be that of the actress Priya Prakash Varrier.
