In another bizarre incident of violence, three Muslim men were allegedly attacked in a moving train on Wednesday night. Israr, Gulzar and Abu Bakr had boarded the train from Delhi to return to their village in Baghpat. Baghpat SP Jaiprakash Singh told news agency PTI that a tiff with some youths led to the alleged assault. One of their attackers allegedly shouted, “Why do you wear rumaals(scarves)?” NDTV reported.

According to reports, the three men were preparing to alight from the train at their destination when six men in their coach locked the exits and attacked them. The police have not yet confirmed the reports that they were thrown from the train.

The victims reportedly got off the train at Amhaida station and filed a complaint against six unidentified persons at Baghpat Kotwali police station.

It is also not clear if the assault had any communal links. But one of the victims told NDTV that the assailants just kept attacking them and said nothing except why do they wear rumaal (referring to the Keffiyeh).

According to the police, an argument between them must have started over seats though there was no evidence to back this theory. The police have registered the case against six anonymous youth under section 147, 323 and 352 of the IPC.

One of the victims, Israr has told the police that though he does not know the assailants but he can recognise them.

The police said though the matter comes under jurisdiction of Railway police, but they have registered the case.
