Two MLAs among six injured in central Delhi road accident
A hatchback crossed the road railing after hitting a divider and collided with the MLAs’ SUV near the PWD office
Two legislators were among six people injured after two vehicles collided in central Delhi on Sunday night.
Abhay Patil, the MLA from Belagavi Dakshin in Karnataka, and Anil Jha, the sitting legislator from Delhi’s Kirari constituency, sustained minor injuries in the accident, police said. Their condition was reported to be stable.
The collision occurred at around 9.30 pm near the PWD office, under the jurisdiction of the I.P. Estate police station. According to police, a hatchback travelling from Laxmi Nagar towards ITO struck a divider, broke through the railing and entered the opposite carriageway, where it collided with an Innova carrying the two MLAs.
The hatchback was driven by 32-year-old Ashutosh Pandey, who was accompanied by his wife and two minor children. All four occupants of the vehicle were also injured.
Police and fire brigade teams reached the scene and carried out rescue operations. All six injured people were taken to Lok Nayak Jai Prakash Hospital for treatment.
Officials said none of the injuries was serious and all those admitted to the hospital were in a stable condition.
Police inspected the accident site and have begun an investigation to establish the circumstances that led to the collision.
