Uttar Pradesh Government is constantly in the denial mode.  First it said that no member of the minority community has been forced to chant a religious slogan and now it claims that the cavalcade of Congress lawmaker Aditi Singh was not attacked in Rae Bareli in May this year when she was going to vote in no-confidence motion against District panchayat head, who happened to be brother of BJP leader.

The Rae Bareli police submitted a final report saying that the Congress MLA’s cavalcade was not attacked instead she suffered injuries because her car turned turtle after it collided with another car of the cavalcade.

The incident occurred on May 14 when Aditi Singh claimed that she was attacked by some unidentified men while she was on her way to the district panchayat office in Raebareli where voting was taking place on a no-confidence motion against Panchayat head Avadesh Singh.

Avdesh Singh is brother of Dinesh Singh, a former Congress leader who joined BJP and contested the Lok Sabha election from Rae Bareli against Sonia Gandhi this year.

“The police have given its report on the expected lines.  If there was no attack on Aditi Singh, why some people opened fire at her? The very next day, a supporter of Dinesh Singh was found dead. Who killed him? How did Aditi receive injuries?” senior Congress leader Amarnath Agarwal asks.

According to the version the police have given, Aditi received injuries in the accident. She was in a Fortuner and it collided with Honda car of the fleet. “Her car overturned in which she received injuries,” Mahendra Pratap Singh, the investigating officer, said in his report.

According to reports Aditi Singh was in her car when the attack took place. Aditi Singh's convoy was followed by some men who also opened fire. She was injured when her vehicle overturned in Raebareli's Harchandpur area. The Congress MLA suffered injuries in the attack, in which her car turned turtle as the driver tried to speed away. She was treated at a local hospital.

Aditi Singh later alleged that Avadesh Singh's henchmen, armed with iron rods and bricks, attacked her vehicle due to which the driver lost control and it overturned.

An FIR has been registered against six people, including BJP Lok Sabha candidate and MLC Dinesh Singh.

Dinesh Singh then had dismissed all allegations against him and his brothers saying they might be in different political parties but “everyone knows I treat Aditi like my daughter”, he was quoted as saying.

This is not the first time that UP police have denied any incident. A few days back when members of the minority community alleged that they were forced to chant religious slogans by Hindu youths, the police said this never happened. DGP OP Singh went on record saying that incidents of Unnao, Bareilly and Fatehpur where Muslims were allegedly persecuted are false.

“No such incident happened,” he said.
