Central Railway promises medical help at ₹ 1

Medical assistance and consultation at just ₹1 per patient is being promised by Central Railway at five railway stations in Mumbai to start with

In about two months, medical facilities for just ₹1 will be available at five Central Railway (CR) stations in Mumbai. The Railways will provide space free of cost and a clinic has agreed to extend medical services at ₹1 per patient. Apart from providing emergency help to railway accident victims in the golden hour, the clinic will have MBBS doctors 24x7 for patients with routine illness. There will also be visiting doctors like specialists in skin disease, diabetes and gynaecology. A pathology lab will be set up offering tests at a discount and pharmacists will sell medicines at discounted rates. A senior CR official said, "Emergency Medical Rooms (EMRs) with ₹1 clinic will come up at Kurla, Ghatkopar, Mulund, Wadala and Dadar. They will be established at 15 more stations depending on when the first set is ready."


ISRO displays solar car made of local resources

A solar hybrid electric car, designed and developed by using in-house resources by the Indian Space Research organisation (ISRO) was unveiled at Vikram Sarabhai Space Centre (VSCC) in Thiruvananthapuram. The demonstration of the eco-friendly vehicle included a successful uphill drive. The only hitch is the cost, which by all accounts will be unaffordable by most people. But, the ISRO is exploring ways to cut down the car's cost.


50 lakh an acre in Jharkhand

Adani Group, that plans to acquire 900 acres of land in Godda district of Jharkhand for its proposed 1,600 MW power plant, has agreed on principle to offer up to ₹50 lakh per acre to land owners, according to a senior company official.


"We will be giving all due benefits to land donors and labourers and sharecroppers working in the fields. Over 1,800 families would be affected by the project," a company official said, adding they would also undertake several projects under corporate social responsibility.


Considering the huge price, the tribal land owners will receive for their land, the mood now is turning in favour of the company’s project, claimed the District Magistrate of Godda. Hopefully, now Jharkhand will have some rich Adivasis!


The world’s highest railway bridge over Chenab

Visting Kashmir will soon become easier. A railway bridge, a 1.3 km long "engineering marvel" which will connect Bakkal in Jammu's Katra and Kauri in Srinagar is being constructed across Chenab river in Jammu and Kashmir. It will be the world’s highest railway bridge and is scheduled to be ready by 2019.


The cost of this arch shaped 35-metre tall structure is 1,110 crores. This bridge will be a significant link between Kashmir and rest of the country.
