The Congress on Tuesday released an audio clip of a purported conversation between Chief Vigilance Officer Satish Verma of North Eastern Electric Power Corporation and MoS Kiren Rijiju’s cousin brother Goboi Rijiju. Earlier on Tuesday, the Indian Express reported that Verma had named MoS Home Kiren Rijiju, his cousin Goboi Rijiju and others alleging corruption in a hydro electric power project in Arunachal Pradesh. The Congress has demanded Rijiju’s resignation.

BJP and Rijiju react

While MoS (Home) Kiren Rijiju told News18 that the man in the audio tape and named by the Congress was indeed his cousin but he was not a contractor, BJP National Secretary Shrikant Sharma said that the contractor, who is at the centre of allegations, ‘is not Rijiju’s cousin as alleged’, reported PTI.

Rejecting graft charges against Kiren Rijiju as "baseless", BJP today said Congress was trying to blame the Union Minister for its "sins" as it was in power at the Centre as well as in Arunachal Pradesh when the project under question was sanctioned.

The party said Congress and its "friend", a reference to the vigilance officer who has flagged the alleged corruption involving Rijiju, had conspired to smear its name as the opposition party had not been able to find a single case of corruption in its two-and-a-half years of rule at the Centre.
