Senior Advocate Ram Jethmalani has written an open letter to Justice CS Karnan in which he accuses the serving Calcutta High Court judge of lunacy and advises him to “withdraw every word that you have uttered and humbly pray for pardon for every stupid action that you have so far indulged in.”

Justice CS Karnan had on Friday termed “unconstitutional” an unprecedented Supreme Court order to issue a bailable arrest warrant against him, to ensure his presence before the apex court on March 31 in a contempt case. Justice Karnan also reportedly ordered the Central Bureau of Investigation to investigate several Supreme Court judges and directed filing of a case under the SC/ST Act. He alleged he was being targetted because of his caste and for complaining about "illegal activities” of some judges.

Jethmalani told Justice Karnan that the latter does not realise the “enormity” of his “madness”, and that “In this corruption-dominated country our judiciary is the only protection. Do not destroy it or even weaken it”. He also accused Justice Karnan of being “out to cause the greatest damage” to the interests of backward castes.
