An All India Anna Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam minister in the Tamil Nadu Government has stirred a controversy with his remarks on the burial site of late chief minister and Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam patriarch Kalaignar Muthuvel Karunanidhi. AIADMK Information and Technology Minister Kadambur Raju was caught on camera saying, “Even when the High Court directed to give land at Anna Memorial, we chose not to appeal, due to our generosity. If Karunanidhi is lying in Anna Memorial, it is only because of the alms given by us to them”.

Raju said that the AIADMK did not contest the court order on Karunanidhi's memorial at Marina Beach because the party was large-hearted. He also said that his party's government gave Karunanidhi state honour out of pity.

The DMK in August had to move to the Madras High Court after Tamil Nadu Chief Minister E Palaniswami had denied permission to bury Karunanidhi at Marina Beach. The HC had then granted permission to the DMK for Karunanidhi's memorial at the site.
