The older son of former Bihar chief minister Lalu Prasad Yadav, Tej Pratap, filed for divorce barely five-and-a-half months after his wedding to Aishwarya Rai on Friday, November 2.

In the petition, Tej Pratap mentioned that they have compatibility issues and he no longer wishes to remain married to her. A Patna family court has listed the hearing for November 29.

Aishwarya Rai, 25, is the grand-daughter of former Bihar chief minister Daroga Prasad Rai. Her father Chandrika Rai is a six-time RJD MLA. She had done her schooling from Notre Dame Academy in Patna and did her Bachelor's degree in History from Delhi University's Miranda House college. She also holds an MBA from Amity University.

Tej Pratap Yadav is an MLA from Mahua constituency in Bihar assembly. He was the Bihar minister of health, minor water resources, environment and forests from November 2015 till July 2017.

Tej and Aishwarya had been married in a lavish wedding which saw the attendance of senior political leaders like Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar, Samajwadi Party chief Akhilesh Yadav, Union Minister and LJP chief Ram Vilas Paswan, Former Union Minister CP Thakur and Nationalist Congress Party chief Sharad Pawar.

Ahead of RJD's foundation day in July, Aishwarya's image could be seen along with her husband and Tej Pratap, his brother Tejashwi, the former CM, his wife Rabri Devi and other important party leaders in posters and banners dotting Patna, triggering speculations of her being fielded from Chapra in the 2019 general elections. There was also a buzz that she would contest the upcoming Lok Sabha election from Saran, once considered the pocket borough of Lalu and his wife Rabri.

It was being speculated that the trouble between Tej Pratap and Tejashwi Yadav began brewing after the older brother’s marriage to Aishwarya. According to sources, Tej’s wife Aishwarya Rai had suggested that he raise raise the issue of senior leaders ignoring him in the party.

Tej Pratap had declared after five days of being married that he does not want his wife to enter politics. But ina month after that, Tej Pratap expressed his disappointment with party leaders and insiders. Family sources confirmed that it was Tej Pratap who ensured that his wife's photographs were displayed prominently in the party posters and banners.
