Pitching for the inclusion of Ajit Singh led Rashtriya Lok Dal (RLD) in the Mahagathbandhan in Uttar Pradesh, Bhim Army chief Chandrasekhar extended his support to the SP-BSP alliance, in order to defeat the BJP.

All parties should come together to defeat the BJP in poll, said Azad.

Tweeting his statement, the Bhim Army chief also clarified that he will not contest the forthcoming Lok Sabha election.

Earlier, it was said that the Dalit leader may contest the next Lok Sabha election from the Saharanpur Lok Sabha seat, currently represented by BJP’s Raghav Lakhanpal.

“I am not going to contest any elections and I absolutely support the alliance as our main objective is to defeat the BJP in the 2019 Lok Sabha Elections. All the political parties that want to save the Constitution must come together, then only the BJP can be defeated. Thus, the RLD should also have been included in SP-BSP alliance,” said Azad who was jailed by the Yogi government under the NSA for 16 months.

During the Kairana by-election, Bhim Army had supported RLD candidate Tabassum Hasan, and has campaigned against the BJP. Supported by the Congress and SP, Hasan had won the by-election by over 43,000 votes.

Analysts believe, Bhim Army may swing the results in favour of SP-BSP alliance as it enjoys a considerable influence among Dalit and Muslim youths.

SP and BSP – after 24 years of rivalry – announced their alliance for the Lok Sabha election on Saturday, sharing 38 seats each.

Sources have confirmed to National Herald that RLD will be accommodated in the alliance at later stage. RLD leader Jayant Chaudhary is expected to meet SP chief Akhilesh Yadav in the coming months.
