Addressing the second OBC convention of the All India Congress Committee (AICC) since he took charge, Congress president Rahul Gandhi launched a scathing attack on Prime Minister Narendra Modi and said PM is afraid of Nyuntam Aay Yojana (NYAY) – a poverty alleviation scheme announced by Congress on Monday.

“Have you seen PM Modi’s face today? There is nervousness; there is fear on his face. He has sensed that time has come to leave the office” said Rahul. “If Modi government can do injustice, Congress can deliver NYAY to the poor,” asserted Rahul adding, his party does not make false promises.

“We would not be able to give ₹15 lakh to people but we won’t lie. We would give ₹72,000 annually to the 20% poorest families,” he said.

In a bid to reach out to the OBCs which form nearly 50 % of the total population, Rahul said Congress will give greater representation to the OBCs. Announcing that the Congress party will give young entrepreneurs complete exemption for three years from taking mandatory permission for setting up a small business, if voted to power.

Congress president mocked Modi government for converting the “Make in India” scheme to “Make in France by Anil Ambani”.

Drawing a contrast between the Congress and the BJP, Rahul Gandhi said Congress makes policy after due consolation with all stakeholders but the Modi government takes decisions arbitrarily.

In the first convention of the OBC department of the Congress party held in June 2018, Rahul Gandhi had promised greater representation to the OBCs in the party and the Parliament.

Reiterating this, Rahul Gandhi said in the second convention, “ I am guaranteeing the OBC community that soon they will be given more space in the Congress party. There are two OBC Chief Ministers in the Congress party today. In coming time you will see more CMs,, more MLAs... This is my guarantee. I am not Narendra Modi, I do not lie. I have taken this small challenge to give space to the OBC, dalit, farmers, poor...in Congress.”
