Parties need to join hands to restore peace in Murshidabad: Congress MP
Very important to organise an all-party meeting in order to address the root causes of the unrest, says Isha Khan Choudhury

Congress MP Isha Khan Choudhury, representing the Maldaha Dakshin Lok Sabha constituency — which encompasses the violence-hit Samserganj assembly segment — emphasised the importance of collaborative efforts to address the root causes of the unrest in Murshidabad district.
Choudhury called on the Trinamool Congress (TMC) government in West Bengal to convene an all-party meeting aimed at restoring peace in the district. "It is very important to organise an all-party meeting involving political and community leaders in order to collaboratively address the root causes of the unrest and restore peace," said Choudhury.
His call comes after violence broke out during protests against the Waqf (Amendment) Act, leading to three deaths, injuries, nearly 140 arrests so far, and destruction of public property. While he planned to visit the affected area, police advised against it to avoid possible crowd-related escalation, which he respected.
In response to the unrest in Murshidabad, prohibitory orders under section 163 of the Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita (BNSS) have been imposed, aimed at preventing further escalation of violence. This section empowers authorities to restrict unlawful gatherings and maintain public order during volatile situations.
Additionally, internet services have been largely suspended in the affected areas to curb the spread of rumors or inflammatory content that could worsen the situation.
These measures are part of the state administration’s broader effort to stabilize the region following the outbreak of violence during protests against the Waqf (Amendment) Act.
