Congress general secretary Priyanka Gandhi on Wednesday held a mega road show in Varanasi along an almost the same route that Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s road show had followed on April 25.

Cheered on by a massive crowd, Priyanka's road show began from BHU gate where she garlanded the statue of Pandit Madan Mohan Malaviya.

Excited Congress workers, clad in tricolour caps and scarves, shouted slogans that were punctuated with ‘Chowkidar chor hai'.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi's road show had reverberated with slogans like "Modi pure hai, baaki sab chor hai".

Priyanka was flanked with the Congress candidate Ajay Rai and Chhattisgarh Chief Minister Bhupesh Baghel.

As the road show meandered through the lanes of Varanasi and culminated at Gudaulia, thousands thronged the route to catch a glimpse of Priyanka who waved to the crowds and threw flowers.

Women sitting on rooftops showered petals on the Congress leaders and took selfies.

If Priyanka's road show was a show of strength by the Congress, the purpose was perfectly served.

Varanasi will vote in the last phase on May 19.
