The Telangana state Assembly has been dissolved, Governor ESL Narasimhan announced on Thursday.

The Governor made the announcement after Chief Minister K Chandrashekhar Rao submitted a cabinet resolution recommending the dissolution of the House.

Soon after dissolution of the Telangana state Assembly, KCR announced candidates for 105 constituencies.

Caretaker Chief Minister and Telangana Rashtra Samithi (TRS) President K. Chandrasekhar Rao released the list of candidates.

He announced the names at a news conference at Telangana Bhavan, TRS headquarters. He said only two sitting candidates were denied tickets.

KCR said candidates for the remaining 14 constituencies will be announced soon.

The decision on whether to hold an early election now rests with the Election Commission. In normal circumstances, election to the Telangana assembly would have been in June

The Governor said he had accepted Rao's resignation and told him to continue as the caretaker Chief Minister.

Speculation was rife for quite some time that Rao may go in for a snap poll. The decision on whether to hold an early election now rests with the Election Commission. In normal circumstances, election to the Telangana assembly would have been in June.

An early election would favour the party, said KCR’s son and state IT minister KT Rama Rao. “We are confident of winning both the Assembly and Lok Sabha elections. If the Assembly elections are over this year, that would give us time to focus on the Lok Sabha elections. We will be able to speak to possible alliance partners,” emphasised KTR, in an earlier interaction.

“In every state, it is the Opposition which wants the elections soon. But, here the principal Opposition, which is the Congress, is against early polls. They have stated that they will go to the Court against it. Whenever the elections happen, we are ready for it,” says KTR.
