Voting ends for Delhi assembly polls, 57.70 percent voting until 5.00 pm

Highest voting percentage recorded in North-East district at 63.83 per cent, lowest in New Delhi district at 54.37 per cent

Nearly 58 per cent of the electorate (57.70 per cent) cast their votes in the Delhi assembly elections until 5.00 pm, according to official data.

Voting for the 70 seats of the Delhi assembly began at 7.00 am and ended at 6.00 pm, but long before the starting time, voters had reportedly reached the polling booth and were standing in queue to exercise their franchise. There are about 1.56 crore voters in Delhi.

The highest voting percentage was recorded in Delhi North-East district at 63.83 per cent, while the lowest was recorded in New Delhi district at 54.37 per cent.

Among other assembly segments, Mustafabad recorded the highest voter turnout of 66.68 per cent, while Karol Bagh recorded the lowest at 47.40 per cent.

According to Election Commission data, Shahdara recorded 61.35 per cent, South-West Delhi 58.86 per cent, North-West Delhi 58.05 per cent, North Delhi 57.24 per cent, Central Delhi district 55.24 per cent, and South-East Delhi 53.77 per cent polling.

A total of 699 candidates are in the fray for a total of 70 assembly seats in Delhi. In the 2020 Delhi Assembly elections, a total of 62.59 per cent voter turnout was recorded, while in the 2024 Lok Sabha elections, only 56 per cent voters exercised their franchise.

President Draupadi Murmu, vice-president Jagdeep Dhankhar, Chief Justice of India Sanjiv Khanna, Union ministers S. Jaishankar and Hardeep Singh Puri, Congress leaders Sonia Gandhi, Rahul Gandhi and Priyanka Gandhi, Delhi chief minister Atishi, and Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) convenor Arvind Kejriwal were among the first to cast their votes.
