Uttarakhand Chief Minister Trivendra Singh Rawat has claimed that research by Sriram Laboratries at New Delhi has proved that use of cow urine concentrate could cure migraine, depression and many other diseases. He further said that cow dung is also useful for skin diseases. He said that Uttarakhand state has been working for the conservation of cow progeny and set up a Cow Conservation Centre at Nariyal village in Champawat district.

In response, former Uttarakhand Chief Minister and senior Congress leader Harish Rawat has asked the BJP leaders to practice what they preach and drink cow urine everyday as per their preaching. He blamed the Sangh Parivar of trying to communalise the region without any genuine love for cows.

CM Rawat was speaking at the centenary celebrations at Cow Memorial at Katarpur village in Haridwar district on February 8. In a bid to push cow politics ahead of the crucial 2019 Lok Sabha elections, the RSS and Sangh Parivar affiliates had organised the function at Katarpur allegedly whip up communal sentiments, as according to them it was the place where several Hindus laid down their lives while protecting cows in 1918. Senior RSS functionaries including national joint general secretary Krishna Gopal and Vishwa Hindu Parishad (VHP) international organizing secretary Dinesh, state BJP chief Ajay Bhatt and several party legislators also participated in the ‘yagna’ held on the occasion.

The RSS, contrary to historical facts, wants to portray Katarpur incident of 1918 as one in which Hindus were victims. As per historical records, 30 Muslims of Katarpur village were killed by a 3,000-strong Hindu mob on September 17, 1918 following a dispute over sacrifice of a cow during Id-Ul-Zuha festival. However, at the Katarpur event on February 8, the killings of Muslims was whitewashed and the history was portrayed as a one-sided atrocity by Britishers and Muslims on Hindus. According to media reports Dinesh Semwal, RSS zonal head of Uttarakhand reportedly said “Many Hindus of this village were killed by Muslims and the British during a protest against the attempt to kill a cow in 1918. Four Hindus were hanged and 135 others were jailed during the protest.”
