Rajasthan High Court’s Justice Mahesh Chandra Sharma’s twisted wisdom about peacocks being “celibate” became the butt of many jokes on Twitter, with many users coming up with memes and jokes that were seen mocking the judge, who retired on Wednesday.

“The peacock is a lifelong brahmachari (celibate). It never has sex with the peahen. The peahen gets pregnant after swallowing the tears of the peacock,” Justice Sharma had said on Wednesday. Sharma had made the comments as he tried to build a case for making “cow as India’s national animal,” remarking that both cow and peacock have some pious qualities in common.

Sharma even said that his arguments had been cited in the Ramayana and the Vedas.

As expected, Twitter had a field day.
