Speculation over ‘mysterious box’ in the PM’s plane: Watch video

A video clip was circulated on Saturday by Karnataka Congress, which claimed that it was shot at Chitradurga immediately after the Prime Minister’s plane landed there on Fiday, carrying Prime Minister Modi for his election campaign in the state.

The clip shows a heavy Trunk unloaded from the PM’s plane, several people carrying the trunk and running to an Innova parked at one end of the air strip. The trunk is quickly placed in the vehicle and the Innova immediately picks up speed and is driven away.

The Innova was apparently not part of the Prime Minister’s convoy and was parked away from the official convoy of the PM. It looked like a private vehicle and the clip has given rise to intense speculation about what could have been there in the trunk.

Karnataka Congress tweeted, “A mysterious box was unloaded from PM Modi’s helicopter at Chitradurga yesterday and loaded into a private Innova which quickly sped away. The #ElectionCommission should enquire into what was in the box and to whom the vehicle belonged.”

The clip has become viral at a time when the Income Tax department has been conducting searches in the houses and business premises of opposition leaders. A team had even searched the family temple in the native village of former Prime Minister H.D. Deve Gowda.

While the common consensus is that the trunk contained cash, according to ECI guidelines not more than 50 thousand Rupees in cash is permitted to be carried during electioneering.

If the video turns out to be authentic and the trunk did carry cash, it would expose the hypocrisy of the Government and failure of the Election Commission of India to maintain a level playing field.

Meanwhile, on Twitter users had a field day, speculating what could have been carried in the trunk.
