In a shocking incident, a 50-year-old woman was allegedly gangraped and murdered by three men, including a temple priest, in Uttar Pradesh’s Badaun district. The shameful incident revived memories of 2012 Nirbhaya gang-rape case in Delhi. The horrific incident happened January 3 evening when the woman, who was employed as an Anganwadi worker, had gone to a temple in Ughaiti area in Badaun district.

The autopsy report of the deceased has revealed startling details of the torture meted out on her. The report confirmed that the 50-year-old woman was gang-raped and an iron rod was inserted inside her private parts. Her ribs were found to be broken and the left lung was damaged due to the brutal sexual attack.

The opposition has attacked Yogi Adityanath government over the horrific incident. Uttar Pradesh Congress unit came down heavily on the BJP government in the state and said that ‘Mission Shakti’ has failed. The grand old party asked Adityanath to apologise to the women of UP for betraying them.

Congress leader Priyanka Gandhi also slammed the Uttar Pradesh government over this horrific incident. She took to Twitter and wrote: "In Badaun, the police did not listen to the complainant, he (police officer) did not even visit the incident scene. The UP government has not shown a strong reslove towards women's safety issue."

While, Randeep Surjewala termed the incident, "Gruesome, heinous, and a shame on humanity."

Surjewala wrote: "When will the Adityanath government wake up? How many more Nirbhaya-like cases will take place."

Meanwhile, Budaun police said a case of gang-rape and murder has been filed and two arrests have been made, while the priest is still absconding.

The incident comes months after a Dalit woman from Hathras died days after she was allegedly assaulted by four so-called upper caste men in her village.
