From Sushant Singh Rajput, Irrfan Khan to Rishi Kapoor, many celebrities left a void in the Indian entertainment industry. Here is a look back at some popular stars who passed away this year.

Sushant Singh Rajput

Actor Sushant Singh Rajput passed away in Mumbai on June 14. The actor was found dead at his Bandra apartment under mysterious circumstances. After starring in TV shows Kis Desh Mein Hai Meraa Dil and Pavitra Rishta, Sushant made his Bollywood debut in Abhishek Kapoor’s Kai Po Che! He grabbed the spotlight following his performance as MS Dhoni in 2016’s MS Dhoni: The Untold Story.

Rishi Kapoor

Bollywood actor Rishi Kapoor passed away in Mumbai on April 30, following a long battle with cancer. He was 67. The actor was diagnosed with cancer in 2018.


Irrfan Khan

One of India's finest and most versatile actors, Irrfan Khan breathed his last on April 29 in Mumbai’s Kokilaben Dhirubhai Ambani Hospital, after a long battle with cancer. He was 53. He won the best actor National Award for his performance in 2012's biographical drama "Paan Singh Tomar".

Wajid Khan

Music composer-director Wajid Khan of Sajid-Wajid fame passed away due to cardiac arrest on June 1. He was 42. He was popular for his songs like “Hud Hud Dabangg” and “Jalwa” among others.

Saroj Khan

Bollywood choreographer Saroj Khan passed away in Mumbai on July 3, following a cardiac arrest. She was 71. In a career spanning forty years, she choreographed nearly 2000 songs.

SP Balasubrahmanyam

Singer and actor SP Balasubrahmanyam, the voice for Salman Khan's most romantic numbers “Pehla Pehla Pyar hai” and “Mere Rang main” among others passed away on September 25 following coronavirus complications. He was 74.

Asif Basra

Actor Asif Basra, known for starring in movies such as “Jab We Met”, “Once Upon a Time in Mumbai” and “Kai Po Che!”, passed away on November 12. The actor was found hanging in a private complex in Himachal Pradesh. He was 53.
