Congress leader Rahul Gandhi launched a scathing attack at the Centre over its handling of the Coronavirus pandemic and the economy. Rahul Gandhi took to his Twitter handle and shared a list of countries showing their economic growth and Covid deaths per million population.

The list shared by Rahul Gandhi includes the likes of Asian countries like Bangladesh, Myanmar, China, Vietnam, Bhutan, Nepal, Pakistan, South Korea, Thailand, among others. Besides sharing the list, Rahul Gandhi wrote.

"Modi government report card: At the forefront in terms of Corona mortality and the backward in terms of GDP rate."

With 45,576 new COVID-19 infections, India's total cases are now close to 90 lakhs. As per the Health Ministry data, the total death toll rose to 1,31,578 with 585 more fatalities in the last 24 hours, a jump of 24 percent over the previous day's figure.

Earlier, Rahul targeted the government over rising prices and unemployment and asked whether this was development or destruction. He also said that the morale of the people is down.

Rahul Gandhi tweeted: “Banks are in trouble and so is the GDP. Inflation was never so high, nor was unemployment. The morale of the public is crumbling, and social justice is being crushed every day. Development or destruction."

Rahul Gandhi’s reaction came after the central government imposed the restrictions on Laxmi Vilas Bank for a month. Under this, bank account holders will be able to withdraw up to Rs 25,000. Significantly, after Yes Bank, Lakshmi Vilas Bank has become the second private sector bank to get into trouble this year. Restrictions were imposed on Yes Bank in March.
