Congress MP Rahul Gandhi has taken a dig at Jay Shah’s appointment as the new chief the Asian Cricket Council. Union Home Minister Amit Shah's son Jay Shah was elected to the new post on January 30.

Congress leader Rahul Gandhi took to his official Twitter handle to hit out at Jay Shah for taking over the post. Rahul Gandhi shared a news report and captioned it as “Meritocracy BJP style.”

The Congress has accused the BJP of indulging in nepotism by repeatedly highlighting the growth of Jay Shah, first on a business front and then in cricket administration.

Meanwhile, BCCI president Sourav Ganguly, cricketer Parthiv Patel and many other Twitter users congratulated Jay Shah for taking over the post.

Jay Shah was unanimously elected as the president of the Asian Cricket Council at its Annual General Meeting (AGM) held on January 1. The 32-year-old became the youngest administrator to be appointed as the ACC President. He replaced Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) chief Najmul Hasan Papon.

ACC is responsible for organising the Asia Cup tournaments. The 2020 edition of the Asia Cup was postponed to June this year because of the pandemic. Pakistan was to originally host the tournament, but it is now expected to be held in either Sri Lanka or Bangladesh.
