Following a viral video in which a young girl was seen crying inconsolably after Mary Kom’s defeat at the Tokyo Olympics, the boxer recently located her and met her.

After the meeting, Mary Kom posted the pictures on social media and said,

''I've found my new fan and follower for boxing who really cheers and cried for me during #Tokyo2020''.

Notably, Boxer MC Mary Kom was one of the favourites from India to bring home a medal from the Tokyo Olympics. However, her dream of a second Olympics medal after her 2012 London Olympics bronze was ended with a controversial defeat to Ingrit Valencia of Colombia.

After her defeat, Mary had herself shared the video, in which the girl had broken down for her.

Sharing the video, the boxer had earlier expressed her desire to meet the fan. She had written, “Dear sisters.. I will give you a hug and salute you if I got a chance for a meeting. If you are interested in any sports/boxing I will be very happy to help you.”

Now keeping her word, Mary met her. This heart-warming gesture was appreciated by many users on Twitter.

Recently, weightlifter Mirabai Chanu, who won India’s first medal at the Tokyo Olympics had also felicitated the truck drivers, who helped her by giving lift to her to the training academy in Imphal, some 30 km away from her home. Chanu had revealed that she couldn’t afford private transportation to the academy everyday so, she relied on those sand-carrying truckers who travelled on the same route.

After winning the silver medal she had hosted an event for them and honoured them for their contribution in her achievement. Apparently she had treated 150 truck drivers and their helpers to a nice lunch and gifted them all a shirt and a Manipuri scarf.
