In a shocking piece of news, over 350 people have fallen sick ill and a 45-year-old man died after a mysterious illness broke out in Eluru city of Andhra Pradesh. According to the latest update, as many as 76 people have been moved to a hospital since Sunday night, taking the number of sick to over 350.
Patients who flocked to the Eluru government hospital complained of symptoms of seizures, vomiting, giddiness, and severe headache.
In wake of the situation, the administration has declared a holiday in educational institutions across Eluru. A 24x7 control room has been set up in the Eluru Municipal Corporation office. Besides, as many as 62 medical camps have been established and paramedical teams deployed to conduct house to house surveillance.
Fifteen units of 108 ambulance services have been arranged, milk and water samples also collected at random and from the affected areas and have been sent for testing. Sanitation activities are rigorously done in areas where cases have been reported.
The government claimed that no viral infections were detected after blood tests of all the affected people were conducted. All the patients were also tested for coronavirus disease (Covid-19) and all reports were negative. Health authorities, however, could not yet establish the cause of the sudden disease though blood tests and CT (brain) scans were performed.
Meanwhile, Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister YS Jagan Mohan Reddy visited the hospital where the sick persons have been admitted. The Andhra CM will also hold a meeting with district officials. The opposition Telugu Desam Party (TDP), on the other hand, demanded a full-fledged inquiry into the disease outbreak and declaration of health emergency in Eluru.
