Former Congress president Rahul Gandhi continues to interact with experts about how to revive the country's economy amid the Corona virus crisis.
In this series, on Friday, he spoke to eminent Bangladesh economist and founder of Bangladesh Grameen Bank, Muhammad Yunus. Rahul discussed the impact of economy, banking sector and lives of common people due to Corona crisis.During the conversation, Rahul Gandhi said that you know the economy of the poor, how is the Corona crisis hurting people?
To this Mohammad Yunus said that the Corona crisis has exposed the evils of the society. The economist said , Poor, migrant laborers are among us, but the Corona crisis has brought them to the fore. They are considered part of the informal sector, which are not part of the economy. If we help them, the whole economy can be taken forward. But it is not being done. Rahul asked Yunus that small businesses are the future for countries like India and Bangladesh but the system is not looking at it, Yunus said that we run like western countries in economic matters. This is why the attention is not being paid to small businesses.
"Small labourers and businessmen have a lot of talent but the government does not consider them part of the economy. Village people in the west are sent to jobs in the city. Now the same is happening in India. Earlier the infrastructure was near the city but not near the village, now opportunities must be created in the village itself." Said Yunus.
The Congress leader told the Nobel laureate that we took a lot from the West but making villages strong is the model of India and Bangladesh. Mahatma Gandhi had said that we must advance our rural economy.Yunus said that the Corona crisis has stopped the economic machine. People want the situation to be like before. But what is the hurry? It would be very bad if that happens. Why do we have to go back to a world where there is global warming and the rest of this kind of trouble. It will be harmful.
Rahul Gandhi said, that India needs to focus on its villages and micro industries for the revival of the economy which has totally collapsed due to the pandemic. As Rahul Gandhi interacted with Mohammad Yunus, thousands of voices supported the opinion and need for reviving rural India through the social media.
