About three months after the horrific Hathras case, The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) filed a charge sheet in the court and said that the four accused gang-raped and killed the 19-year-old Dalit woman. Four upper-caste men Sandeep, Luvkush, Ravi, and Ramu, who are in judicial custody now, have been charged with gang-rape and murder. The charge sheet has been filed under Sections 354, 376 A, 376 D, and 302 of IPC and SC/ST Act.

The CBI looked into the role of the four men who were also put through different forensic tests at the Forensic Science Laboratory in Gandhinagar. The CBI had constituted a special team to probe the case as it was handed over to its Ghaziabad unit. The team recorded statements of family members of the victim.

Soon after CBI filed the charge sheet at a special SC/ST the court, Congress General Secretary Priyanka Gandhi targeted the Yogi Adityanath-led Uttar Pradesh government and said, "The truth has prevailed once again.”

Priyanka Gandhi took to her official Twitter handle to target the UP government. She shared a picture from the incident and captioned it as: "On one side, there was government-protected injustice. On the other hand, was the victim's family's hope for justice. The victim's body was forcefully cremated, and there were attempts to tarnish her image. The family was threatened. But, in the end, the truth has prevailed. Satyamev jayate."

The 19-year-old Dalit woman was allegedly gangraped and murdered by four upper-caste men in Hathras, Uttar Pradesh on September 14. She succumbed to her injuries a fortnight later at Delhi's Safdarjung Hospital.

The victim was cremated in the dead of the night near her home on September 30. Her family had alleged they were forced by the local police to hurriedly conduct her last rites. Local police officers, however, claimed that the cremation was carried out "as per the wishes of the family".
