‘I won’t retreat’: BSF jawan alleges persecution by officers

Border Security Force (BSF) constable Tej Bahadur Yadav has alleged persecution by senior officers of the force after a series of videos on bad quality food served to jawans, posted by him went viral on Facebook—prompting Home Ministry to order a probe into his allegations of ration pilferage.

In a new audio message making rounds on social media, Yadav has rebutted the allegations of indiscipline, insubordination and alcohol abuse. “Had there been any truth in their accusations, they would not have given me so many awards and 14 medals,” he said in a new audio message. Seeking a CBI probe in the alleged scandal, he said: “I don’t believe BSF authorities. They have locked me up in an undisclosed room—where I am not allowed to watch news-channels...or talk to someone over phone.”

He further said: “I am not afraid of consequences. I am battling for truth. I told my CO (commanding officer) Bhagat Singh exploded bomb in the assembly and I’ve done the same. My countrymen must know the truth. And now I am not going to retreat....My sacrifice won’t be a big deal if it benefits someone. Millions of people have watched my videos.....my country is awakening, no doubt.”

“In a government job is there any provision of seeking permission before speaking the truth? The custodians of government will definitely punish you for speaking the truth. Hail untruth,” Liaqat Ali commented on the Facebook post, sarcastically.

When National Herald tried on Wednesday morning to contact Tej Bahadur Yadav on the phone number shared on his Facebook wall, it was switched off.

Meanwhile, Yadav’s wife Sarmila Yadav has lamented that she hasn’t heard from her husband after the controversy over videos erupted. She further claimed on social media that she has been handling her husband’s Facebook account. “Some people's are trying to say that it's a fake id so I want to say that I am wife of mr tej bahadur yadav who is using this id,” a post on Tej Bahadur Yadav’s wall read.

“What my husband has done is right, it’s the truth. If he wasn’t mentally stable, then why he was at the border,” a news agency quoted Sarmila, reacting to BSF Inspector General DK Upadhyay’s allegations.

“Demand for food can never be unjustified....we must get justice.”
