BCCI President Sourav Ganguly suffers mild heart attack, undergoes angioplasty, stable

Sourav Ganguly, the president of Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) suffered a mild heart attack and is undergoing "primary angioplasty" at a city hospital in Kolkata, doctors said.

"He had an acute myocardial infarction (MI) but is stable now. He is stable haemodynamically and has received loading doses of dual anti platelets and statin.

"Mr Ganguly is undergoing primary angioplasty now. We are yet to decide on how many stent insertion is required for Mr Ganguly," a doctor at Woodlands Hospital said.

A myocardial infarction (MI), commonly known as a heart attack, occurs when blood flow decreases or stops to a part of the heart, causing damage to the heart muscle.

His condition is now stable. Sourav Ganguly was admitted to hospital in Kolkata on Saturday after he suffered a blackout at his home and complained of chest pain.

The 48-year-old former India captain complained of dizziness and then suffered the blackout just after he had returned from gym.

He was immediately rushed to city's Woodlands Multispeciality Hospital.

It has been learnt that Saroj Mondal, a doctor at the city's SSKM hospital, has also reached the Woodlands Hospital to attend to Ganguly.

Mamata Banerjee, the West Bengal Chief Minister, tweeted, "Sad to hear that @SGanguly99 suffered a mild cardiac arrest (sic) and has been admitted to hospital. Wishing him a speedy and full recovery. My thoughts and prayers are with him and his family!"
