Contrary to what the ruling dispensation wants us to believe about India belonging to Hindus only, majority of Hindus think that India belongs to all religions equally, rejecting the majoritarian views peddled by the ruling party and its allies.

In a survey conducted by a Delhi based think tank, Centre for the Study of Developing Societies (CSDS), nearly 75% of Hindus (who use social media) said India belongs to all religions, dismissing BJP and its parent organisation, RSS’s idea of Hindu Rashtra.

As per the survey – that was conducted to assess the political predilections of social media users in India – nearly 73% of non-users (of social media) believe that the country belongs to all religions equally as against 75% of the users who have the same line of thinking.

In comparison to what the majority of Hindus think, as per the survey, only 17% non-users of social media think that India belongs to Hindus only.

Similarly, there are only 19% of users who believe that India belongs to Hindus only.

“As it appears, the usage of social media does have an impact in making the beliefs you hold somewhat stronger, as it perhaps gives you a space where you can express and share your views and opinions,” the report reads.

According to the report, a total of 24,236 voters were interviewed during the survey. The study is based on fieldwork conducted by CSDS across 211 parliamentary constituencies in 26 states between April and May.
