LIVE News Updates: Congress asks state units to hold protest against CAB on Wednesday

The Congress has asked all its state units to stage protest tomorrow in their respective state headquarters against the Citizenship Amendment Bill.

A woman journalist alleged in a Delhi court on Tuesday that former Union Minister M J Akbar sexually harassed her in 1997 while she was working in a newspaper being edited by him.

The woman made the submissions in her deposition before the court as a witness appearing in support of scribe Priya Ramani in a criminal defamation complaint filed against her by Akbar.

Akbar, who resigned as Union minister on October 17 last year, filed a private criminal defamation complaint against Ramani after his name cropped up on social media as the #MeToo campaign raged on in India.

The Delhi High Court on Tuesday declined to entertain a PIL seeking a judicial inquiry and a probe by the CBI or any other independent agency into the Anaj Mandi fire near Filmistan here which claimed 43 lives.

A bench of Chief Justice D N Patel and Justice C Hari Shankar said the fire occurred on December 8 and it was too early for the court to interfere as the authorities were dealing with it and also deliberating on preventing such incidents in future.

According to Delhi police, four people were injured after a man opened fire on them in Prem Nagar area, late night on Monday. The assailant is known to the victims and is absconding. Investigation is underway, arrests will be made soon, the police said.
