Arunachal Pradesh reports 475 new COVID-19 cases, 2 more deaths

Arunachal Pradesh continued to register a surge in COVID-19 cases as 475 more people tested positive for the infection, pushing the tally to 42,564, a senior health official said on Sunday.

The COVID-19 death toll in the frontier state increased to 201, as two more persons succumbed to the infection on Saturday, State Surveillance Officer (SSO) Dr Lobsang Jampa said.

Maha: 418 new COVID-19 cases in Thane, 12 more deaths

With the addition of 418 new cases of coronavirus, the infection count in Maharashtra's Thane district has gone up to 5,40,294, an official said on Sunday.

Besides these new cases reported on Saturday, the virus also claimed the lives of 12 more people, pushing the death toll in the district to 10,904.

The COVID-19 mortality rate in Thane is 2.01 per cent, he added.

10 dead as heavy rains pummel Mumbai, local train services suspended

Ten people died in house collapses in Mumbai as incessant overnight rains pounded the city and nearby areas, officials said.

Seven people died and two were injured after a house wall collapse at Vashi Naka in Mumbai's Mahul area, a fire official said. A retaining wall collapsed at 1 am after a tree fell on it, he added.

Three hutment dwellers were killed as five shanties collapsed after a landslide following incessant overnight rains in Mumbai's Vikhroli suburb at 2.30 am, a civic official said.

Two persons were injured and were sent to a nearby hospital, he said.(Source: PTI)
