Nitish saga: Couplets, songs that did the rounds on Twitter

Nitish Kumar’s dramatic resignation as Chief Minister of Bihar yesterday and taking oath this morning have evoked many poetic and sarcastic reaction on social media

Vivek Kaul wrote on his Facebook wall: There used to be a Sushasan Babu (one of the several names Bihar CM Nitish Kumar goes by). Reliable sources have revealed that a ghazal by Bashir Badr had have great influence on his life. Some couplets of the ghazal go like this:

Musafir ke raste badalte rahe

Muqaddar mein chalna tha chalte rahe

The traveller kept changing his pathways

He was destined to travel, he kept travelling

Mohabbat, adavat, wafa, berukhi

Kiraye ke ghar they badalte rahey

Love, animosity, loyality, apathy

These were rented houses, he kept changing

Former Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Akhilesh Yadav tweeted the opening lines of a famous song from the 1965 movie Jab Jab Phool Khile. The song talks about a person who, in spite of resisting feelings for a certain person, ends up falling in love with the same person.

Senior journalist Om Thanvi tweeted out a couplet from a ghazal by Prof Waseem Barelvi. The couplet says that only such a person can survive in current times who knows the art of switching sides.

Kuchh to majbooriyan rahi hongi

Yun koi bewafa nahin hota

(There must have been some compulsions

No one becomes disloyal without any reason)

Sudhir Panwar in response to the tweet wrote a line from a famous song written by Sahir: Chalo ek baar phir se ajnabi ban jaye hum dono from 1963 movie Gumrah.
